Marriage Monday ~ Wives of the Bible ~ Lot's Wife

"But Lot's Wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt." Genesis 19:26
I love how God can use what seems like a small mention of someone in the Bible and turn it into a lesson in several different areas. Lot's wife is mentioned so briefly that we aren't even told her name. It would be very easy to glance over this story not realizing there is much to be learned from her. But there is. When we study Lot's wife we see the importance of turning from our sin no matter how big or small to follow God. We also see the importance of following our husband when God calls him.

Is God calling you to lay down sin in your life in order to follow Him? Are you not letting go of your comfort zone in order to move with your husband?

In the story of Lot, God was protecting Lot & his family by making them leave Sodom. God told them not to look back but Lot's wife refused to let go.

Lot's wife had become so engrossed in the sin around her she couldn't turn completely away from it. She clung to the past ~ the sin & all that went with it.

Through clinging to sin & her past, Lot's wife missed out on the blessings she could have experienced in God. God did all that He could to move her out of the sin she was in. But, ultimately she turned into a pillar of salt when she turned back to look at Sodom.

Is there sin in your life you need to turn away from?

Sin can be a lot of fun. When your in the moment you don't think about the consequences. You enjoy the way it makes you feel, the power it gives you or the momentary rush. Sometimes sin is so insidious you don't realize it is harmful. After all what is a little lie or gossiping going to hurt?

The problem with sin ~ no matter how big or small ~ it will pull you away from Christ.

Not only did Lot's wife refuse to turn from her sin & follow God but she also refused to follow her husband. God's Angels pulled Lot & his family out of Sodom in order to protect them. Through Lot he was trying to give Lot's wife & daughters a better life. God could have chosen to go directly to Lot's wife but He didn't. Lot didn't always make the right choices but, he was the leader of their family and God went to him.

Has God been leading your husband in a new direction or new town but you aren't wanting to follow him? Are you clinging to the life you know & where you are comfortable rather than taking the leap of faith to go with your husband & follow God's calling?

Sweet sisters if you are struggling to let go of the comfortable life of sin or struggling to follow your husband on a new journey I pray that you will be able to let go of whatever is holding you back. In Jeremiah God tells us He has a plan for us of hope and not harm. He wants what is best for you. That best for you may be letting go of sin or following your husband.

Is there something in your life you need to turn away from in order to follow God?

Are you holding tightly to your comfort zone instead of following God's leading through your husband?

Please leave me a comment and let me know if there is any specific way I can pray for you.
