Jesus prayed for us...

“I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours.” John 17:9

Did you know that Jesus prayed for you? As a Child of God and Disciple of Christ, Jesus prayed for you. In John 17:6-19 we see Jesus’ prayer for His Disciples and for those of us today who follow him.

Jesus was going to be with His Heavenly Father but before leaving He prayed specifically for those He left here on earth.

In this prayer He asked His Holy Father for 3 things:

·      He asked for protection from the enemy

o  so that they may be united as one like the Holy Trinity. “…Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name – the name you gave me – so that they may be one as we are one” John 17:11. When we as believers are unified as the Father, Son & Spirit were unified we can overcome opposition through the power of the Trinity.

o  so that they may be in the world but not of the world. “… for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one” John 17:14,15. We are to live as a light in the dark world around us.

·      He asked that they experience the Joy of Christ in them. “I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them” John 17:13. When we experience the full Joy of the Lord we will radiate the love and joy of Christ to those around us.

·      He prayed for Sanctification through the living Word of God. “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth” John 17:17. We are set apart for use by God when we daily study and walk in the truth of His Word.

Lord we thank you for sending your Son to die on the Cross for our sins. Thank you that before Jesus left this earth He prayed for our protection, joy & sanctification. Lord we ask that you protect us in the dark world that we live in. Help us to be the light you have called us to be to those around us. May we experience your Joy so that your love will shine bright through us. Set us apart through our daily study of your Word. In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen.
