One in Christ

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility. And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. Ephesians 2:13-18

  • Do you and your husband often find yourselves at odds?
  • Is there unresolved frustration, hostility, or hurt?
  • Is there a wall standing between the two of you?
There is a way to overcome the hurt, frustration & hostility. That way is through Jesus. He is our peace. He will help mend fences. He will heal hearts. Our passage today tells us that Jesus has broken down through his flesh the dividing wall of hostility. Christ died on the Cross for us. Through His death he saved us from our sins making us one in Him. Christ's love for us shows us the love we are to have for our husbands.

When Christ died on the cross he died for the Jews & Gentiles who were very much opposed to each other. Upon His death he made them both part of Himself, "abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two". He did this to make peace between the two groups "making peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility"

Christ wants us to be one with our husbands. But sometimes it can be so hard. Our flesh can sometimes get the best of us.
  • we are in bad moods and we just don't want to be nice
  • we may be carrying some unresolved hurt and anger
  • we may have so much on our mind that we don't want to stop long enough to share our concerns
Will you do something for me today? Will you take time to sit in The Calm of God's Presence and think about your relationship with your husband? Ask yourself some questions.
  • Do I need to go to my husband and ask for his forgiveness because I've hurt him?
  • Is there an area in which I need to forgive my husband?
  • Do I need to take the time to sit and talk with my husband and let him know what is going on in my life?
Then spend some time in prayer asking God to help you talk with your husband. The conversation may not be easy. But, as it says in our passage "now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ."

Dear Lord, I pray that you will open our hearts and our eyes. Help us see if we have hurt our husband. Give us the humility to go to him and apologize and ask for forgiveness. Lord if we have been hurt give us the strength to forgive our husband. Please mend the pain and soothe the anger. And Lord, if we need to slow down and spend some quality time with our husband please help us do that. Help us prioritize what is important and help us show him how important he is to us.
