“’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the
LORD,
‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope and a future.
Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me,
and I will listen to you.
You will seek me and find me with all your heart.
I will be found by you,’ declares the LORD,
‘and will bring you back from captivity.
I will gather you from all the nations
and places where I have banished you,’ declares the
LORD,
‘and will bring you back to the place
from which I carried you into exile.”
Jeremiah 29:11-14
Thank
you for joining us once again as we study the seven phases of revival from
Henry & Richard Blackaby’s book Fresh
Encounter, Experiencing God’s Power for Spiritual Awakening.
·
Phase 1: God is on a mission to redeem a lost world
·
Phase 2: God’s people tend to depart from Him, turning to substitutes
for His presence, His purposes, and His ways.
·
Phase 3: God disciplines His people because of His love.
·
Phase 4: God’s people cry
out to Him for help.
·
Phase 5: God calls His people to repent and return to Him or perish.
·
Phase 6: God revives His repentant people by restoring them to a right
relationship with Him.
·
Phase 7: God exalts His Son, Jesus, among His people and draws
unbelievers to saving faith in Him.
Last
week we studied in phase 3 that God disciplines His people because of His love.
Have you felt God disciplining you for sin in your life? Did you take time to
pray and ask God to reveal areas of sin?
There
are times when God has to allow bad things to happen to us in order for us to
realize our desperate need for him. We are a stubborn people who fall into the
sin of the world.
Henry
& Richard Blackaby tell us that when we sin we become spiritually ill in
our lives, family, church, and nation. When we realize we are spiritually ill
we need the help of the Great Physician - God. He will heal our lives, family,
church, and nation. It is up to us to ask!
How
do we call on Him?
·
Call upon the Lord and pray. However you need to go to him - in the
quiet of your room, driving down the road, at the altar of your church, during
your morning run. It doesn’t matter how, just that you go to him and he will
listen to you!
·
Seek the Lord. Get in His Word, listen to Christian music, go to
church, whatever you need to do to feel his presence and listen to him.
·
Go with the Lord. When He tells you to get up and go, GO! He will take
you out of the captivity of the sin you are in and move you to a place of
fellowship with Him.
Take
the time this week to call upon God. Ask Him to give you the strength you need
to face the consequences of your sin. Ask Him to give you the strength to
follow Him as He brings you back from your place of exile.
Dear Lord, thank you that
you know the plans you have for us and that those plans are to prosper us and not
harm us. Thank you that when we call on you, you will hear us and answer our
prayers. Please give us the strength we need to call on you. May we feel your
loving arms wrapped around us as we cry out to you. Fill us with your loving
presence.
In Your Name I Pray, Amen.
In His Calm,
Mary
